1. Flickr is still pretty wonderful. But it’s lovely in the same way a box of old photos you’ve stashed under the bed is. It’s an archive of nostalgia that you love dearly, on the rare occasion you stumble across it. You pull them out, and hold them up to the light, and remember a time when you were younger, and the Web was a more optimistic place, and it really was almost certainly the best online photo management and sharing application in the world.

And then you close the box.

And you click over to Facebook, to see what’s new.

gizmodo, why you no mention tumblr?
  2. Buyers Remorse?

Do you think Zuckerberg will be suffering from it at the moment? Here we are several days after the announcement of the purchase of one of my favourite little apps, Instagram, by the corporate douche that is Fuck-book™.

In my short internet journey since the early 2000’s, I’ve seen several companies swallowed by larger ones. The list goes something like this:-

    • Flickr/Yahoo
    • Posterous/Twitter
    • Tumblr [changed TOS] ok technically not a takeover, but is there a possibility it will change hands at some point in the future, & only fool would say it can NEVER happen.

I’ve also seen the only viable alternative to Fuck-book™ barely gain legs thanks to another monolith corporation, can I say Tyrell-like? Starting their own, and yes I’m talking about Diaspora and Google+.

How will Facebook make changes, if so, and when, and by how much, are the questions running through most folks minds, well by most I mean mine?

Only time will tell. One thing is for sure, the reason I enjoyed Instagram so much was because of the minimal interface, the ease of sharing and the spontaneity, I doubt Facebook could or would actually take that away?

I hope not. [While we’re at it experience instagram in a whole new way]

  3. Tumblr’s TOS?

Since tumblr recently change their TOS, I’m contemplating going back to my old blog, http://blog.stunik.com.

Of course as a movable type blog it was wonderful and customisable, but lacked the polished look I feel tumblr has here. Not to mention other features like queuing of posts and the dash with the community behind it as well.

Must think some more about this

  4. Self Promotion Sunday

Yes folks it’s the last Sunday of the Month, so here we go.

    In no particular order.

    *P.O.M.O.= Post-modern, google it.

** A working title, this may change some time in the near future?

  5. The reblog button mechanised viral stars on Tumblr,” says Karp. Communities of users began to coalesce around topics such as cycling and technology, following and reblogging one another. “If you think of Facebook as being a strict friends’ network, Tumblr is a strong interest network,” says Boyd. “On Facebook, it’s a DNS [domain name system] for people. Tumblr is a place to share and communicate.” Charlie O’Donnell, a New York-based venture capitalist, says that Tumblr has now gone beyond being just a publishing tool. “What’s really exciting is the interconnectedness, the community. It makes blogging in other places kind of lonely.
