Talking About Still Photography?
Does Facebook’s purchase of Instagram weigh up? Not according to the head of photography at the Guardian, these final comments though are interesting.
The $1bn is buying Facebook another chunk of the world’s visual memory. Facebook is making sure all those images don’t end up on Flickr or in some other storage cloud.
But why the boom in making still images? Why are people still taking pictures and not shooting video?
Well have you tried video? It looks easy enough until you try editing it. If it’s bad it’s not just a bit of a joke it’s a boring joke. With a still photograph processed through a toning app one can produce a finished and pleasing piece of work. And don’t underestimate the growth of photography as a note-taking medium, not just for documenting family life, but as a useful tool for all sorts of professionals from doctors to plumbers to record and communicate. All those 1,000 words taken care of by the click of a shutter.
Why do you take pictures?

tee hee
- Every day, we get to see a bunch of mediocre images captured by mediocre cameras on our overpriced phones, uploaded via our overpriced data plans. But for the digital upper class, it is worth paying to be a participant of this instant cycle of sharing. Instagram has placed itself as a necessary tool in this process, an easy-to-use mobile app that Facebook bets will serve as the definitive photo-editing and -sharing tool of the current digital era.

Buyers Remorse?
Do you think Zuckerberg will be suffering from it at the moment? Here we are several days after the announcement of the purchase of one of my favourite little apps, Instagram, by the corporate douche that is Fuck-book™.
In my short internet journey since the early 2000’s, I’ve seen several companies swallowed by larger ones. The list goes something like this:-
- Flickr/Yahoo
- Posterous/Twitter
- Tumblr [changed TOS] ok technically not a takeover, but is there a possibility it will change hands at some point in the future, & only fool would say it can NEVER happen.
I’ve also seen the only viable alternative to Fuck-book™ barely gain legs thanks to another monolith corporation, can I say Tyrell-like? Starting their own, and yes I’m talking about Diaspora and Google+.
How will Facebook make changes, if so, and when, and by how much, are the questions running through most folks minds, well by most I mean mine?
Only time will tell. One thing is for sure, the reason I enjoyed Instagram so much was because of the minimal interface, the ease of sharing and the spontaneity, I doubt Facebook could or would actually take that away?
I hope not. [While we’re at it experience instagram in a whole new way]

- Facebook and Instagram are two distinct companies with two distinct personalities. Instagram has what Facebook craves – passionate community. People like Facebook. People use Facebook. People love Instagram. It is my single most-used app. I spend an hour a day on Instagram. I have made friends based on photos they share. I know how they feel, and how they see the world. Facebook lacks soul. Instagram is all soul and emotion.
