Times Square & Artists Wanted Competition
I’ve entered another competition. Competitions seem to have multiplied exponentially since the take off of web 2.0. I’ve yet to get anywhere, and wonder how you can catch the eye of the public and then the judges when you are competing agains the whole world! This current competition is run by Artists Wanted uses the now familiar crowd sourcing approach. Get ‘seen’ or in...

'Editions' & Photography?
Making Editions of prints has long been a tradition in printmaking. Some people are advocates of it in photography too. Luminous landscape has at least one article on the matter, and my aprroch is not to make editions. My work, particularly my silver gelatin prints, can never be reproduced exactly the same every time. Firstly the materials are in much short supply, and secondly I may change my...

Instant Gratification or....
instant nostalgia? Instagram’s “most popular” feed is filled with sunsets, over cities and beaches and points in between. It might be said, though, that all Instagrammed photos emphasize photography as an elegiac or twilight art, one that rushes and fakes the emotion of old photographs by cutting out the wait for history entirely, and giving something just a few seconds old the texture of time....

driving gear around
digitalsnaps replied to your post: gear? 3 types of film—-Portra 160NC 120; 4x5 Tmax sheet film; 4x5 Ektar sheet film. 2 cameras plus 10 or more darkslides is a lot to carry around in the field with a tripod. I gotta confess, I don’t walk very far with my gear. I drive as close as possible to each location and walk only a few feet sometimes, so really it all sits in the back of the car as...

Buyers Remorse?
Do you think Zuckerberg will be suffering from it at the moment? Here we are several days after the announcement of the purchase of one of my favourite little apps, Instagram, by the corporate douche that is Fuck-book™. In my short internet journey since the early 2000’s, I’ve seen several companies swallowed by larger ones. The list goes something like this:- Flickr/Yahoo ...

Frozen?
jckingca replied to your post: Freezing Film? My daughter recently used some old Kodak Super-XX 8x10 sheet film that I had bought in the 1980s and kept frozen. She reports that the film was fine and not fogged at all. Awesome news, I’ve all sorts stashed in my freezer.

Tumblr's TOS?
Since tumblr recently change their TOS, I’m contemplating going back to my old blog, http://blog.stunik.com. Of course as a movable type blog it was wonderful and customisable, but lacked the polished look I feel tumblr has here. Not to mention other features like queuing of posts and the dash with the community behind it as well. Must think some more about this
