Life simplified?
I have just deleted my facebook account. Not as simple a task as I would have liked? Where to now? Glad you asked. I am about to order some 5x4 colour negative sheet film from B&H. Expect to see some big changes around here.

poploser: From Wired’s DJ Shadow interview. I just think that the internet has been sold to us as our savior. As a means to create a new economy, as our spiritual salvation, whatever. Everything is supposed to be bigger and better online. But what I think people have lost sight of — and I don’t think…

Two Exhibitions.
The CCP and the NGV are having exhibitions about photography and surveillance, if you are in Melbourne over the coming weeks go see the shows. The NGV show opens on Friday the 30th of September. Two useful distractions while the annual Neanderthal kick-fest is on, no?

Machine Vision?
Indeed, algorithmic curation may well be the most democratic method of curating possible. Internet culture, as cemented in communities like tumblr, invites anyone to curate, but it does nothing to address the top-down nature of curating itself: the best tumblrs, like the best art curators, are known for a taste and judgment which is in some way distinctively superhuman, and itself a subject of...

Photo-Books & Remixing
Having done a couple of spreads I emailed Bruce scans to show him what I had done. I’ll admit I was very nervous. I liked and still like my remix very much, but I wasn’t so sure what Bruce would say. I thought it’s maybe one thing to say “Sure, cut up my book,” and quite another thing to actually see it done. Much to my delight, Bruce was very excited about it.
